Does LASIK surgery hurt?

Most people are surprised to find that LASIK surgery typically does not cause pain. Your eyes will be numbed for the procedure, but you might feel some light pressure during the actual correction. Some people notice irritation in the eye that was treated, but it often disappears after sleeping for a few hours.

How do I know if I’m a good candidate?

Generally, as long as your eyes are healthy and have had a steady prescription for two years, you are a good candidate for corrective surgery. However, if you want to be sure, visit our optometrists for an exam.

Will I still need to wear eyeglasses or contacts?

This depends on the condition of your eye health and vision. However, most people are able to eliminate the use of glasses and contacts for their daily needs or permanently. Some may still need them for reading or driving at night. Since fully improving vision can take anywhere from a few days to a few months, you might need your corrective lenses until that improvement is achieved.

Can I get LASIK on both eyes at the same time?

You can receive corrective surgery for both eyes on the same day. If this is what you prefer, speak with our optometrists to see if there may be any reasons to have one eye done at a time.

How long does LASIK surgery take?

The time may depend on whether you are receiving LASIK for one or both eyes. However, the procedure typically takes 30 minutes or less.

How long is the recovery period after LASIK surgery?

Unlike some other surgical procedures, you can usually return to your regular daily activities the day after LASIK. However, you might need to avoid swimming, contact sports, and saunas for a few weeks. Our optometrists will provide you with instructions on which activities to avoid and how to care for your eyes after surgery.
